Thanks to one man's mission to end urban isolation, New Yorkers are finding out what goes on behind closed doors.
New Yorkers have generally been wary of neighborly intimacy. For all we know, the guy next door could be harboring a dead body - or a tiger. Moreover, city dwellers are said to cherish their anonymity. Like Jerry in the classic Seinfeld episode, we recoil at the thought of having to return home every night to "kiss hello" the people we bump into at our building's mailboxes....
But for those ready to break out of the self-imposed obscurity, the online community MeetTheNeighbors.org is there to help you take that first intimidating step....
The site, which has so far registered nearly 500 buildings in NYC, is the brainchild of Jared Nissim, founder of the popular Lunch Club.
